We grow the seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii in the waters of
Ribeirão da Ilha, Florianópolis, and turn
every harvest into food and cosmetics.

Our story

Two women growers, one shared sea

Tatiana was the first to begin. She obtained permission to grow Kappaphycus alvarezii and spent the following months studying everything she could find about the seaweed — its uses in food, cosmetics and agriculture. She trained in Ceará and Paraty through a course offered by the CEPA/UFRJ project. She left shellfish farming behind and committed fully to seaweed. In January 2023, she opened her Seaweed Processing Unit for Human Consumption.

Nerciane followed the same path: Epagri’s seaweed farming meetings. That is where the two met. An invitation to a fair came next, followed by the first recipes tested together — and the certainty that they were already partners.

Algamos grew from this partnership between Tatiana’s Algama Fazenda Marinha and Nerciane’s Rosa do Mar Fazenda Marinha. Our name brings together the Portuguese words alga, vamos and amamos: seaweed, let’s go and we love. Together.

Nerciane and Tatiana together
  • The beginning Tatiana obtains permission to grow seaweed and immerses herself in studying the species.
  • Training Training in Ceará and Paraty through a CEPA/UFRJ project course.
  • The turning point Shellfish farming ends, making way for a full commitment to seaweed.
  • January 2023 Opening of the Seaweed Processing Unit for Human Consumption, made possible by a loan from the state government’s FDR fund, secured through participation in the Flor & Ser course run by Epagri.
  • The meeting Nerciane and Tatiana meet at Epagri’s seaweed farming meetings.
  • Today The partnership becomes Algamos: dried seaweed, food and cosmetics from the same farm.

Why seaweed

Seaweed is one of the most complete foods the sea offers — and it grows without land, fresh water, fertilizers or pesticides.

Growing seaweed also helps regenerate its environment: it absorbs nutrients from the water and provides shelter for marine life around the farm.

A way of farming that gives back.

Our work is to introduce this seaweed to Brazil. We grow responsibly, process with care and receive support from research institutions such as Epagri and UFSC so that seaweed can take its rightful place: in food, personal care and the livelihoods of people who live from the sea.

No land Grows in the sea without taking up farmland.
No fresh water No drinking water is consumed during cultivation.
No fertilizers Feeds on nutrients already present in the water.
No pesticides Clean cultivation, straight from the sea to processing.

It even helps clean the air: seaweed captures CO₂ through photosynthesis, converting it into biomass and releasing oxygen into the environment.

What sets us apart

Made by the people who grow it

We grow and harvest

We do not buy seaweed from third parties. The seaweed in our products is harvested at our own farms in Ribeirão da Ilha.

Licensed processing unit

Our food processing unit was built to meet applicable standards and has been operating since 2023.

Applied science

We develop every stage of our products ourselves, from cultivation to recipes. We put what we learn into practice.

Family farming, led by women

From the ropes in the sea to the replies on WhatsApp. Algamos is a family operation led by women.

Come and see for yourself

An invitation to spend a morning with us at the farm — depending on the weather, at Algama Fazenda Marinha or Rosa do Mar Fazenda Marinha. Hear how it all began and discover why seaweed is good for the people who eat it and the place where it grows — and, conditions permitting, see seaweed farming at sea up close. At the end, join us at the table for a taste.

We welcome groups of nutritionists, chefs, students and curious visitors. Dates are arranged according to our availability — contact us to schedule your visit.
